I never thought I would see the day where I would think less of a publication for just coming out once per month. DC’s Rebirth initiative has gone a long way to change the way I look at comic books.. And I have been studying these damn things for thirty years!. So, when this publication comes with an hour, it is amplified by it’s once-a-month shipping program. When it has two months.. Well, that is a lifetime.
Black Manta is taking his pound of flesh out of Jackson Hyde’s mom. He gets a couple of great shots.. That is to say he giggs her pretty great with his harpoon-spear, before Jackson himself arrives on the scene.. With an offer. From the Tower, Robin is teleconferencing with Batman. Who’s had just about enough of the Teen Titans crap. He demands Damian brief him on Titans business weekly.. Following the telephone, Raven arrives into lecture Robin on his actions of late, however the chat is disrupted by a bleeding Ms. Hyde.
We change to Beast Boy and Starfire buying at a Farmer’s Market. Beast Boy is a Vegan by the way. Not only that, he’s also Vegan.. He also does not eat meat, also thinks poorly of those who do.. And doesn’t shut the hell up on it. He suggests Starfire take the reins from Robin and correctly lead the group. She hems and haws, but is rescued by an emergency call from da boss until she can reply. Oh yeah, Beast Boy says when she doesn’t take over, he’s gonna quit. Can not believe I am saying this, but I hope she doesn’t.. And he does.
We understand the roots of how he Manta fulfilled Jackson’s mother and all about that shell necklace..We learn that she is from from unduh da sea, and the necklace is, actually, a map to a long-lost treasure. We get a reasonable bit of dysfunction to the next half of the situation.
Robin points out that Beast Boy was supposed to be keeping tabs on Jackson.. Which causes our vegan buddy to reverse out. Despite him really annoying me out this time, I gotta say that feels like a natural teen-age reaction to confrontation. Before things go wild, Starfire manages the situation and begins directing visitors. Beast Boy is quick to comply with her orders. Black Manta and Jackson find the positioning of the Black Pearl.. Which looks appropriately ominous. They head into the beverage to procure their prize.
What I Dug?
We get some advice relating to this shell necklace we have been sorta eyeing these past couple issues. I was not certain if this was only some sort of identifier, or whether it had any significance otherwise. Batman telling Robin to get off his crew social media! I was waiting to see if that shoe would ever drop.. Especially after Beast Boy pulled Chonnie Cung into Titan’s Tower to get a televised tour of their facilities.
The art here was super powerful. Pham has produced these characters his very own, and Damian doesn’t always have that been chasing parked cars face here. Pop Mhan also turns in certain top-quality work.
This might sound petty.. And it likely is, but.. Beast Boy, infant.. We get it, you’re a vegan. There is that old joke do you tell somebody’s a vegan? They are those that won’t end up about being vegan. Here we’ve got he and Starfire shopping in a Farmer’s Market.. It is unfortunate we can’t have nice things.. As opposed to cease with him carrying away a bagful of veggies.. Dude, c’mon. There’s subtle.. And there is sub-tull. This is actually the latter.
Beast Boy generally is a walking talking cringe-fest. His drive for Starfire to shoot more than Damian, calling her chief.. By the end I had been rooting for Robin to disembowel him. If you’ve got a problem with Robin.. Take this up with Robin, do not be a passive-aggressive punk until Robin faces you about slacking in your duties.
Black Manta being contributed to the treasure.. I dunno, it looked like an appropriately ominous site. Hard to figure that nobody’s come across it earlier.
